D. Brown Fisher’s Blood on the Take

With his debut CD, Blood on the Take, D. Brown Fisher serves up his refreshing and thought-provoking lyrics amidst a musical landscape created with the help of some the recording industries finest talent. Fisher, a poet and music aficionado, has spent many years studying acoustic science, music, and teaching himself to play the guitar in order to enhance his lyrics with textures of sound. With this, his debut offering, he has taken the time to let these songs evolve, to flavor them with a variety of instruments and tones, and to serve them up not as a series of unrelated songs, but rather as a whole, each complimenting the other like the courses of a well designed meal.

Of course, much of what makes this meal so flavorful is the collection of musicians who helped him cook it. From seasoned veterans like Speedy Sparks on bass, Michael Hale and Michael ‘Lefty’ Lefkowitz on drums, Wayne Sutton and Carolyn Wonderland on guitar, and Ephraim Owens on trumpet, to up-and-coming guitar players like Preston Dukes and Ron Sio, the recording is packed with top-notch talent from start to finish. And perhaps the most crucial component in the overall orchestration of this talent is Tim Bond, the record’s sound engineer and Fisher’s co-producer. In addition to these production duties, Bond contributed much of the record’s subtle flavoring through his work on the piano, organ, tenor banjo, and accordion, and he can also be heard singing on the background vocals as part of the drunken pirate choir, along with Fisher and Dukes. Both Fisher and Bond worked tirelessly to bring the unique talent of each musician they recorded into the forefront, and it is clear from the opening track that this is no fly by night recording.

The CD was recorded exclusively at Bundyhill Recording in east Austin, Texas, which was opened by Tim Bond and Preston Dukes in the summer of 2006. It was then mastered by renowned mastering engineer, Jerry Tubb at Terra Nova in Austin, Texas, who has worked with such legendary musicians as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Doug Sahm, and so many more, racking up an impressive career with over 7000 musical projects.

The CD is a collection of political and social realities experience by Fisher throughout many years. The recording is available now, having officially gone to print on 9-11-08 and made available in the United States. The official European release is scheduled for the American election day, 11-4-08, in Amsterdam, Holland. Have a listen...
